What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that is broad, general and inclusive. The aim of CrossFit is to create a program to prepare trainees for any physical contingency. The prescription is constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement.
Founded by Coach Greg Glassman in the late 1990s, CrossFit has experienced huge growth and acceptance around the world. It has become the fitness program for many policy academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide. However, CrossFit’s program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. The same routine has been used for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale loads and intensity; we don’t change programs.
One commonly used excuse to NOT start a CrossFit program is that people say they need to get into shape first – NO NEED! CrossFit is scalable, meaning weights, number of reps or level of intensity can be varied to suit each trainees’ abilities. You will be challenged no matter what shape you are currently in.
CrossFit is, quite simply, a sport—the “sport of fitness.” We’ve learned that harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition, and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means. Join us at CrossFit Franklin and experience the fun, nurturing and challenging classes that will spring board you to the next level of fitness.
